ABSTRACT

This chapter gives some best practice examples of how to get them involved and engaged with health and safety. The model is based on the need to have a highly visible and supportive safety professional and works on the assumption that senior management support is available. Providing safety training always tends to be the first thing on a safety professional's agenda and it's a necessary part of an engagement strategy. Every manager should be aware of the concept of performance management. It involves line managers making sure that their teams deliver the required results, and it works at all levels of an organisation. The company uses a system of 'model' risk assessments based on worst case scenarios. The idea of making health and safety a performance management issue is to get managers to relate to the subject on a practical level, and to make the link between health and safety and their job role stronger.
