ABSTRACT

Engaging the unengaged is probably the hardest challenge safety professionals face and there’s no one sure-fire way of succeeding. If there were, whoever thought of it would be very rich!

“How do you overcome inaction?” is a traditional question asked in job interviews for health and safety positions and the reality can be a source of much frustration for safety professionals the world over. This chapter suggests some ways of overcoming inaction at all levels of an organisation. They are mainly based on thinking about things differently and being more ‘savvy’.
