ABSTRACT

One of the desirable outcomes of creative music making (CMM) sessions would be the desire of participants to actually perform free-form improvisations in public concerts. In fact, it is recommended that a public performance be planned as the culminating event of either a CMM course or workshop. For this kind of concert, a variety of ensemble configurations duets, trios, quartets, or larger can be utilized. Varying combinations of instruments strings, winds, percussion, or a mix can also be used. Participants might form their own groupings or ensemble members may be appointed by the facilitator, or some combination of the two methods may be used. Helping audiences to have a meaningful listening experience is an important responsibility for performing musicians in today's musical environment. A printed program with performance notes is the traditional method of conveying background information about composers and compositions. The intent is to set the stage for a more involved and less intimidating listening experience.
