ABSTRACT

A theory of German modern-dance tech nique taught that from the waist down the dancer should direct himself downward, and from the waist up he should project into the space above. I, however, encourage upward projection from the point of contact with the floor, through the vertical body and pene trating into upward space. Thus the body as a whole, like the arm reaching upward,

structurally erects itself and extends into the space above.
