Yancy: What was it like to grow up there? james: Well, I left when I was very, very young. I'm what some people
would call a "military brat." But I would say I was in a family of people who were careerists in the military. So, we moved around quite a bit. I grew up on army posts, mostly in the South at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and I spent some time in New Jersey at Fort Monmouth. When I was about eleven, we relocated permanently to San Antonio, Texas. My best memories were in North Carolina.
