ABSTRACT
I have already suggested that urban theology is necessarily a theology of transformation. It arises from a purposeful engagement with marginalized urban communities and seeks to model patterns of faith that can resource multifaceted struggles for holistic liberation in the forgotten corners of the “fourth world.” This chapter is therefore perhaps the most important in this book. Can urban theology play an important part in the project of human freedom? Can it give life to Jesus’ proclamation of “good news” for the oppressed?
