ABSTRACT

Shelley, Adonais (1821); Literary Chronicle, Dec. 1, 1821, pp. 751–754. The praise of Shelley’s poem, together with the sympathetic (though condescending) treatment accorded Keats, shows that the Literary Chronicle was strongly in the liberal camp and opposed its influence to that of Jerdan’s Literary Gazette. Adonais is reprinted in full, probably because the unknown reviewer (whose copy must have been brought or sent directly from Italy) thinks that his is the only copy of the poem in England. No. 133. LONDON, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1, 1821. Price 6d.
