ABSTRACT
Hazlitt, Political Essays (1819); Monthly Review, 2nd Series, XCIII (Nov. 1820), 250–258. The Monthly pursues its usual course of judging political and moral questions largely in literary terms, as in this review, stuffed with quotations from Shakespeare. Hazlitt’s own best style of appropriate quotation is here used to criticize, if not condemn him.
