ABSTRACT

The ANALYTICAL REVIEW; OR, HISTORY OF LITERATURE, DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN (May 1788 – June 1799) was a monthly cast in the mold of the Monthly Review and Critical Review. Its bias was liberal and friendly to the “new philosophy” of the reformers. The publisher was Joseph Johnson (1738-1809), one of the leading publishing magnates of the 1790’s. Thomas Christie (1761-1796) was the original editor of the Analytical.
