ABSTRACT

Shelley, Alastor (1816); review by Josiah Conder, Eclectic Review, 2nd Series, VI (Oct. 1816), 391-393. Conder, confessedly baffled by the first volume of poetry published under Shelley’s name, at least attempts to let the reader judge from the poet’s own words. In actuality, Conder’s description of the poem’s purpose on page 392 (top half) is more accurate than those by many subsequent critics of Shelley.
