ABSTRACT

The SALE-ROOM was an Edinburgh literary weekly that published twenty-eight numbers from January 4 through July 12, 1817. The publisher was John Ballantyne, Walter Scott’s friend, and Scott contributed a poem to one number of the periodical. The contents suggest that John Wilson and several other Edinburgh literary men who later wrote for Blackwood’s Edinburgh Magazine may have had a hand in the Sale-Room. Though several articles and letters in the periodical discuss contemporary literature, only the following one-page letter concentrates its remarks on a single work by a major poet.
