ABSTRACT

[Byron] Don Juan, VI-VIII (1823); Edinburgh [Scots] Magazine, 2nd Series, XIII (Aug. 1823), 190-199. This reviewer (presumably he who treated Sardanapalus and Werner) misses the point (p. 193) of Byron’s satire on war in cantos VII and VIII. “Professor Lawrence” (p. 199) was Sir William Lawrence (1783-1867), a free-thinking surgeon and medical lecturer who was once Shelley’s physician.
