ABSTRACT

[Byron] Don Juan, VI-VIII (1823); Literary Gazette, July 19, 1823, pp. 451-453. Whereas John Murray had begun publishing Don Juan in a quarto format (shifting to octavo with cantos III-V), John Hunt issued the work in both octavo and – as here – cheap 18mo editions to undercut book pirates who might have been tempted to undersell the authorized edition. (The Lord Chancellor had declared the copyright of Don Juan void because of its libelous and immoral contents.)
