ABSTRACT
[Byron] Beppo (1818); Literary Gazette, March 14, 1818, pp. 162-164. “Whistlecraft” was John Hookham Frere, who had published the “specimen” of a mock-epic ottava rima poem using that pseudonym. Frere was a friend of Byron, and his poem stimulated Byron to imitate the Italian serio-comic manner.
