ABSTRACT

Coleridge, Christabel [etc.] (1816) and Maturin, Bertram (1816); review by William Roberts, British Review, VIII (Aug. 1816), 64–81. The “Humane Society” (p. 66) at this period rescued and attempted to resuscitate drowning people, not animals. The praise of Bertram would have irritated Coleridge, who attacks the play violently in Biographia Literaria.
