ABSTRACT

In all walks of life, we are constantly evaluating the “falsehood” or “truthfulness” of messages around us. The game of poker is an excellent example of where players must decide who is lying at the table, and at times must lie themselves to win at the game. The nonverbal profile of the deceiver is reviewed and strategies for managing those perceptions are addressed. Deception occurs in two ways: low-stakes deception (little consequences of being caught in the lie) and high-stakes deception (severe consequences of being caught in the lie).
