ABSTRACT

Since the early 1950s, the World Health Organization (WHO) has promoted greater consideration of these matters at national levels. The findings have been exchanged and compared through meetings, seminars and publications and have led to suggestions for more effective action (Grant, 1985; Rootman and Moser, 1984; Moser, 1980; Bruun et al., 1975; Makela et al., 1981; 1982).
