ABSTRACT
Among the parts of speech recognized by traditional grammar are what we might call 'logical' parts of speech. These are words whose function was thought of as the combining of the major parts together to form phrases, clauses or sentences. In a deep structure of the kind we are proposing they can be given a categorial analysis just like any other word, though it may happen that there are only a few in a particular class.
