ABSTRACT
There are at least two ways of approaching the study oflanguage. One approach is to regard language as an existent human phenomenon and to jump right in and study what occurs. Another approach is to study artificial languages, which can be kept under tight control by means of the stipulative definitions with which they are introduced, and try to incorporate into them more and more of the features possessed by the natural languages we use in our everyday lives.
