ABSTRACT

The time in therapy comprises a very small part of the week of a client. There are variables that are specific to clients/systems and the contexts in which they exist that all influence the outcomes of therapy. Effective therapists are able to enhance these client factors and utilize the context for therapeutic change. In this chapter, we describe ways in which therapists can enhance, leverage and maximize client and contextual variables to effect change, as well as work around some barriers and obstacles that lie in contexts that impede therapeutic progress.
