ABSTRACT

Policy provides direction. In this chapter consideration is given to the framing of policy which suggests that there is an interest on the part of a nation or a region, their governments and, crucially, their people to make entrepreneurship work for the benefit of the entrepreneurs, the markets and the wider society. The chapter helps the reader to obtain a critical overview of the meaning, scope and purpose of entrepreneurship policy, distinguishing critically between SME development policy and Entrepreneurship policy in different environments. It looks at how different economic, fiscal and industrial policies incorporate entrepreneurship and innovation together with the province of governance and policy relevance in different environments.
