ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with organisations which form the second ‘building block’ for our study of entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurial firms or organisations provide the crucial micro context for entrepreneurs helping to define their purpose. The chapter takes the reader on an exploratory journey to discover in-depth the meaning, scope, structure and components of different types of entrepreneurial organisations. It helps the reader to assess critically their relative merits, disadvantages and values. The journey moves further to review collaborative forms of innovation that help to define modern entrepreneurial organisations in the changing landscape of innovation and the role of the future entrepreneurial organisation in a global economy.
