ABSTRACT

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has been proliferating Weapons of Mass Destruction to various regimes in the Middle East and Africa and possibly to non-state actors too. The hostility between the United States and North Korea goes back to the Korean War and the extension of the Cold War system to East Asia. T The accession of Gorbachev brought about major geopolitical changes in East Asia, as well as in the Atlantic region. he DPRK has remained the world’s last communist totalitarian state, much of whose domestic politics and the making of foreign and defense policies are hidden from the outside world. The ROK (Republic of Korea — South Korea) developed in a different trajectory from the North. The full scale of the disastrous political and diplomatic consequences for the DPRK of the loss of Soviet support became clear.
