ABSTRACT

This part gives examples of practice and issues arising, particularly with reference to the nature of psychotherapeutic knowledge and its implications for the training of psychological therapists. This first chapter provides some examples of short-term therapy, including my interest in the therapeutic use of photographs. It hopefully provides examples of what might be an existential (if not existential-analytic) approach, but hopefully without the theorising dominating. There is also an example of the use of standard evaluation methods  – GAD-7 (anxiety), PHQ-9 (depression) and CORE-10  – more details of which can be found in Loewenthal, 2013. All such approaches to evaluaion, however, were found to be a potential violent infringement on the client and of the therapeutic endeavour.
