ABSTRACT

There is a question as to what, if anything, distinguishes relational and existential psychotherapy. As was quoted in the introduction of this book, ‘we are all postmodern existentialists’ (Margulies, 1999:  704). Some relational psychotherapists might put their theories first, if not (as with modern existentialists) themselves! There is also a problem with reifications as in ‘the’ relational (something of which I unfortunately am sometimes guilty).
