ABSTRACT

To end this book, I have chosen two editorials and a quotation. One of the editorials is about the unfortunate need for critical psychotherapy, which led me to being asked to write Critical Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis and Counselling:  Implications for Practice (2015). I do consider that neoliberalism has now almost a stranglehold on psychotherapy, with less and less possibility of confidential space for clients to be able to be able to speak what is on their minds. In writing this book I also believe that existentialism – perhaps better termed ‘existential-analytic notions’ when considered with post-modernism – provides an important way of critiquing, which has something to offer not only to existential or existential-analytic approaches but potentially to all therapies.
