ABSTRACT
In this chapter I would like to draw attention to a complication concerning the concept of style which arises when, rather than basing one's analysis on individual stylistic principles, one views texts as stylistic realizations of verbal actions, which, in turn, one relates to the actual historical situation in which the texts originate.
