ABSTRACT

As we have said previously, there was little reflection in Klein’s own work on the wider implications of her ideas for society or politics. It is only in her reflections on the nature and meaning of criminality and delinquency that she addresses a potentially contentious social question. But despite her own disinclination to extend her thinking beyond its primary clinical context, Klein’s ideas have been found valuable by many psychoanalysts and social scientists in reflecting on wider social issues. In this chapter we will show how this development has come about.
