ABSTRACT

Advancements in hydraulic fracturing or fracking have made it possible to extract oil and natural gas from deep seated shale rocks efficiently in the twenty- first century, which was unthinkable before. Fracking has helped to bring about a shale revolution in the nation with the state of Texas leading the way since the technology was advanced here through a trial and error process. In this oil and gas rich state, the largest number of fracking sites can be found in various shale formations widely dispersed within its boundary. This chapter has provided an overview of the technology and distribution of shale resources in the state along with its history of oil and gas production and a glimpse of the economics behind the energy production process.
