ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book attempts to provide Internal Family Systems (IFS) and non-IFS clinicians alike with the theory and practice of IFS therapy with children and families. In 2015, IFS therapy was recognized by the US Government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and listed in the National Registry for Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). The book discusses the vignettes, artwork, and explanations of the model will encourage more child therapists to train in IFS. It shares the personal journey to IFS therapy and dives more deeply into the key concepts and practice of IFS. The book provides that personal experience is the most valuable learning tool. In addition to the stories, artwork, and excerpts of transcripts of sessions, it also provides with activities and tools that found to be useful.
