ABSTRACT

Neurology is concerned with the body's nervous system and the brain; psychology deals with the workings of the human psyche; and biology asserts that the human body is an animate object. Visual art has been used extensively throughout history to represent particular people and events. But it has also been used extensively to capture feelings associated with events: the crucifixion of Jesus Christ or the Holocaust, for example. Opera and musicals are genres in which music and singing in particular play an important role in the expression of human emotions. Even with their often bizarre and incredible plots, these musical phenomena manage to re-create and convey the range of human conditions and emotions that their audiences can recognize and associate with. Apart from having a musical function, collective singing has, undoubtedly, a social function. Humans are essentially social animals; music is essentially a social activity.
