ABSTRACT

Kelly started in football politics as a pen pusher in the salty breezes of the old Football League’s headquarters up on England’s Irish Sea coast, at Lytham St Anne’s. He moved to The FA’s headquarters at Lancaster Gate as secretary. When football became sexy in the 1990s, Kelly’s y-away hair, crumpled suits and face to match hardly tted the game’s slick media image. O- the-peg trousers were replaced with designer Italian suits. Out went the barber’s shop and in came the hair salon. With a new diet and regular exercise, Kelly shed a few pounds and the chief executive’s new look was complete.
