ABSTRACT

For us as teachers most situations that we face are not life or death crises but are complex situations that are open to a variety of interpretations. The glass may be half empty or half full, but the evidence suggests that our brain genuinely shows us the world diff erently when we are negative. Our focus narrows and we miss bits. We are creating a reality rather than viewing it. Remember that the chimp that we referred to earlier is prone to catastrophic thinking and that the brain, as Goleman says, is prone to quick but sloppy emotional thinking.
