ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book. The book helps the school staff who work with trainees in various capacities while they are on placement in that it might help them appreciate further the kinds of academic, pedagogic and practical challenges faced by trainees from all subject areas. Reflecting on one's own practice and beliefs with someone who is new to the profession can be a thought-provoking, even energising, experience. The book begins with Helen, an undergraduate who has just heard that she has been awarded a place on a Secondary English course. It considers how issues raised might be explored within the context of the school. Many of the activities therefore are designed for sharing and exploring with other people, particularly other trainees, qualified teachers and educational professionals working within and beyond school.
