ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides an overview of equine-assisted therapy and is applicable for physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, mental health professionals, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, as well as researchers, or educators interested in equine-assisted therapy. It also provides an overview of equine-assisted therapy and addresses important themes prevalent in the industry today. The outcomes of a cross-sectional international research project identified topics of interest or concern to current-day providers of equine-assisted therapy, and helped to guide and shape much of the content. The book serves as a resource to examine the professional practice of equine-assisted therapy through an objective, scholarly lens. It discusses a detailed information related to healthcare laws and practices is specific to the United States, and may or may not transfer to other countries.
