ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about intellectual biography of Zygmunt Bauman and concerns to explain how Zygmunt Bauman became Zygmunt Bauman. Zygmunt Bauman is one of the most talked about academic social commentators in the world today. His books and papers are widely read within the academic community and he contributes regularly to quality newspapers and other publications. Zygmunt Bauman was born in Poznan, Poland, in 1925. In 1939 Bauman and his parents fled from the Nazis to the Soviet Union where he later joined the Fourth Division of the Polish exile army that with the Red Army liberated Poland from Nazi occupation. Bauman's liquid turn developed alongside the polish lustration process. During his liquid turn Bauman explored the notion of identity as something that has the process of forgetting at its core and provides form to the formless.
