ABSTRACT

Sam and Dan Houser were sons of Walter Houser, their musical preferences lay elsewhere. Dan would recall that the game would run for only a few seconds then crash, but for the brief time he was able to play the game. It was different to anything they had seen before. They renamed it Grand Theft Auto (GTA), exciting a wave of controversy. GTA is a multi-billion-dollar franchise. It is the game that characterises every parental fear about video gaming. The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) system rated GTA as suitable for players aged 18 and over. Jane McGonigal, author of Reality is Broken, is the designer of the self-improvement game SuperBetter, which is all about building resilience. Games are engaging the right game for the right person, highly so. Some will quickly tire of Call of Duty warfare, but may have to exercise extreme self-control to not play yet another level of Candy Crush Saga.
