ABSTRACT

In Tsugaru Kaikyo the flow is the resultant of an east-going branch of the Tsushima Shio and the tidal stream. Except for a few days in the year the current is stronger than the tidal stream and under extreme conditions the resulting flow can run to the east at as much as 7 knots. Cape Nambu bears from the South Head S22E66N22E' in the MS, which is clearly an error and has been corrected to Cape Nambu and Point Esarme bear from each other N22W and S22E' in Broughton, Voyage, and amended erroneously to N22E and S22W in the amended Voyage Leagues. Cape Nambu bearing S66E & Point Esarme NE, Extremes of Matsmai S75E and Nipon S56E. Soon after the author open'd two distant Islands O Shima and Ko Shima with a Rocky point Shirakami Misaki, the NW entrance point of Tsugaru Kaikyo forming the Eastern part of Matzmai bay.
