ABSTRACT

Fresh breezes and very hazey round the Horizon, the wind at NNW and North. Soon after noon we saw very Mountainous Land to the Westward. The mountain range of Hamgyong-sanmaek, culminating in the 2,541-metre-high Kwanmo-bong. At 6 PM we had run in 8 Leagues & and our distance from the nearest Land was 5 Leagues, the extremes extending from S30W to N10E. Between 2 high points bearing from N35W11 Komalsan Dan, situated at the south end of a small promontory, which rises to the 183-metre-high Komal San to S58W22 rang Dan, a rocky treeless point with a pointed summit 119 metres high the Land fell Back some little distance Kyngsng Man and within the 58 point there seem'd to be the appearance of a small opening in the low Land. Myonggan Chon enters the sea 3 miles NW of rang Dan. All this part was bounded by lofty Mountains equal in height or more elevated than Formosa.
