The southern part of Ostrov Iturup, known to the Japanese as Etorofu To. & we had 45 fathoms of water in margin: NB Spanberg a Russian Navigator is said to have water'd upon an Island in this Latitude & had some intercourse with the Inhabitants. It lies to the South of Ooroop and is call'd Nadeegsda. The authors steer'd NEbN and at Sunset the Extreme being two High Hills Broughton thought that Ostrov Iturup consisted of two islands and that the southern part terminated at Mys Bol'shoy Nos. bore N55E off shore 2 or 3 Leagues and the Volcanic Hill on with SW part of Island S24W. These islands together with Ostrov Iturup, Ostrov Urup and Ostrov Simushir were sighted by La Prouse in August 1787.
