ABSTRACT

To synthesize jet fuel from non-fossil feedstocks, but it would be silly to ignore the fact that a large number of these ways do fall into the category of biofuels. Biofuels are popularly understood to be either substances that can be used directly as fuel or substances created from biomass using well-understood biological and physical process technology pathways. Fischer-Tropsch process is an exercise in deconstructing and reassembling organic molecules in a very fundamental way. Hydro-treated renewable jet fuels are made only from fats and oils; naturally occurring oils must first be mechanically or chemically released from the biomass, which can present quite a challenge. Coming back to biofuels specifically, keep in mind that some processes accept any kind of biomass: virtually any organic material is a potential feedstock. One of the most interesting potential sources of biomass used in other aspects of our economy but is produced in large quantities nonetheless, is fiber.
