ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of the site selection and acquisition processes with emphasis on the EPCOT parcel as well as site engineering and technology. The EPCOT site is located on what was known as the Demetree property. The site selection and acquisition programs were supervised by company attorney Foster. The Florida site selection and acquisition processes often have been described as a cloak and dagger' operation. The Disneyland site purchase in Anaheim was the company's first exercise in sophisticated location analysis and acquisition. While Disney and his staff traveled around the country to develop the EPCOT concept, Walt Disney Productions had already produced technological milestones in the entertainment industry. Walt Disney Production's version of the underground passageway was Disney's idea; he first used it under Disneyland's New Orleans Square. Additionally, Walt Disney Productions learned a great deal about technology during World War II.
