Reigning at the peak of glory in Vijayanagara empire, Krishnadevaraya was most famous of Vijayanagara emperors. Two dramatic legends depict Krishnadevaraya as a wily survivor. In one his stepmother tried to prevent him from becoming the ruler. In another legend, one of Krishnadevaraya's wives-to-be had been told he was not really a kshatriya, and on their wedding night she tried to murder him. His wise minister Appaji came to know of the plan and he had a skilful artisan make a realistic dummy, filled with a sweet red liquid. Shunning sleep and dreaming, he worried and spied, at least during first part of his career, moved by wisdom of insecurity. At the edge of chaos, where there is a struggle to redefine order and make the most of circumstances, one finds the optimum conditions for achievement energies needed to face the dangers, wisdom to keep balance and be both stable and daring, finding the power of vital endurance, enduring vitality.
