ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book caters to an industry whose stewardship role is finding small business investment opportunities on behalf of investors they represent. It addresses common issues germane to middle market private equity investments professionals and portfolio company leadership teams. Resolution alternatives are rooted in reputable research. The objective is that of coaching small business portfolio companies and their investment sponsors to more efficiently unleash growth and profit potential. The book discusses reconciles with culture, growth, and efficiency depicted. First, culture is the biggest gear that provides the most torque because people steward the business model. Second, businesses must profitably grow in order to create the most value. Third, efficiency must enable growth without inflicting duress on culture. The null hypothesis imparts that there should be no performance difference between the universe of middle market companies and those pursued by private equity firms for investment.
