This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book helps to make some conclusions about the dynamics of the fields of cultural production and consumption and the power tensions that structure these fields. It dealt with production and consumption, although each from a slightly different perspective and with different emphasis on the varied instances involved in media and culture industries. The book explains a dialectical perspective that accounts for the dual nature of digital media production and consumption. It discusses several types of sign objects and commodities: audiences, formats, various kinds of media content and works of both professional and amateur natures. The book shows the importance of acknowledging other forms of value than the economic. It stands out as obvious that economic value in one way or another seeps back into the discussion, indeed into value itself in general.
