ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the key factors relating to the diagnosis, development, validation and implementation of strategies. Most strategies, perhaps as many as 90", have very little impact. A key reason is that the taxonomy, syntax and semantics of most strategies is flawed. OpenStrategies estimates that people can work with only about 15 +/ 5 ideas when those ideas are displayed in a simple logic map. So strategies must be simple and clear if large numbers of stakeholders are to understand and implement them. Strategies must focus on improving the core functions of organisations. OpenStrategies encapsulates these core functions in the logical sequence represented by the acronym Projects, Results, Uses and Benefits (PRUB). PRUB represents the sequence: Organisations run Projects which produce Results which people Use to create Benefits. PRUB represents the smallest amount of strategic information that has the highest value to the most stakeholders. Projects are what organisations do to create assets. Results are the assets created by the Projects.
