ABSTRACT

Historians have found pictorial evidence dating back long before the earliest written records that indicates some knowledge of elementary mathematics and of time measurement based on the movement of the stars. One common interpretation of its purpose is that is the earliest known record of attempts to sequence the prime numbers in the manner of ancient Egyptian multiplication. Cantor broke through Galileo's obstinacy by considering a smooth curve of motion, made of an infinite number of infinitesimally small straight lines. The success of the Elements is due primarily to its logical presentation of most of the mathematical knowledge available in Euclid's day. Georg Cantor is best known as the creator of set theory, which later became one of the foundations of modern mathematics. Extrinsic curvature is hence more significant than intrinsic curvature, as its presence overpowers, or subsumes, any intrinsic curvature in a domain or region over which it spreads, no matter how many dimensions.
