ABSTRACT

The discussion of the recognition of training needs has so far been general, although a number of specific techniques have been referred to as part of the total situation. Many approaches are well known and their nature and purpose self-evident. The planning of a series of interviews with all concerned with the problem situation is at the heart of any systematic approach to training needs analysis. Training analysis and preparation is rarely complete without some form of group appraisal of the situation. A formal meeting may, as in other areas of business, be an appropriate way of obtaining this. The use of film and video tape, particularly in the field of operator training, made a significant impact. Although there are important technical and cost differences between the two media, their fundamental contribution to the analysis situation is very similar. Attitude surveys are normally cited as one of the tools of training analysis.
