ABSTRACT

The term 'Overpopulation' refers to the condition of having a population so dense as to cause environmental deterioration. Current human population exceeds the carrying capacity that the earth can sustain. Rising carbon dioxide levels, global warming, pollution, and fresh water shortage are severe environmental problems aggravated by overpopulation. Overpopulation contributes to world hunger, especially in many poor developing countries that have more population than they can feed. Current and future growth in the world's population primarily occurs in the less and least developed countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The increasing population puts a strain on the food supply to its people. Populations are growing so rapidly that food production is unable to keep pace with the expanding local population growth rate in Sub-Saharan Africa. In order to promote economic development and eliminate poverty, the Chinese government is devoted to removing the burden of overpopulation and developed the One Child Policy.
