ABSTRACT

This conclusion covers an overview of key concepts discussed in the presiding chapters of this book. The book discusses food, the most fundamental need for human beings. Food is a unique and special commodity that deserves special attention in international trade. The right to food is a universal right, a right that ensures the survival of everyone on this planet. The right to food has a privileged place among human rights. It supersedes all other economic, social, cultural, and political rights. The success of improving world food security requires international efforts in influencing national behaviour. An international human rights framework for the implementation of the right to food should be set up so that States will better understand their obligations under international law, and incorporate this inalienable human right into their national legal systems. Despite some proactive efforts made during the Uruguay Round negotiations, the existing world trading system still distortedly prevents efficient food distribution.
